Friday Night: A Taste of Markham

From 6 to 8 pm

Ethnic Cultural Entertainment

The early hours of Friday night are a reflection of Markham's wonderful diversity. Music and dance from many of our cultural groups is on display. This year more ethnic food vendors and crafters will be participating for your enjoyment. Try a roti or some baklava. Something for every pallet.

If you’re a photographer, you want to be the Festival Friday night! Many dance troupes will be performing in their very colourful costumes.

There will be dances from all across the world performed by the following local groups:

  • Makedonka Dancers
  • Main St. Dance
  • Fuego Flamenco
  • All Toronto Malayali Association - Bollywood Dance
  • Tarana Dance

At the same time, the Wonder Years Choir, Triple Play and winners of this year's Chinese Idol competition will be entertaining us with their musical talents.

From 8 to 10 pm

Big Sounds hit the street

From 8 until 10, the street rocks with big sounds. Including:

King of Nothing

King of Nothing plays an eclectic mix of ‘cool soulful pop music’, based on a repertoire spanning several decades and including recognizable (but not overplayed) songs. The band’s unique sound is based on distinct lead vocals, rich harmonies, a groove-oriented rhythm section, and dynamic and colorful sax, guitar and piano leads.

Uptown Swing Band

The Uptown Swing Band is a “Little Big Band” whose repertoire celebrates the best swing music from three decades, faithfully recreating favourites from the swing-era 40s, jump music from the fabulous 50s, and Rat Pack performances from the swingin’ 60s, plus a few Ballroom Classics.

The Groove Suit

The Groove Suit is a Toronto-based funk band that blends Rock & Roll and R&B/Soul music with P-Funk bass, Rap/Hip-Hop drums, Heavy Metal guitar, Afro-beat horns, Electro-house-music keyboards and everything in between... including the dreaded "Jazz" (a.k.a. the devil's music)

Be sure to come back for updates.
